Explanation
There really is no explanation for this. This is a very uninformative error that Magellan tends to send back quite often. We have heard from several members as to how they fixed this error. We will list those below. We hope other Therabill members will add to this discussion. Bottom line is that you may need to call Magellan to find out why they are denying your claims.
Possible solutions
- All Magellan claims need the PO Box and the mailing address entered, even if submitting electronically. If you do not have this entered, then this is definitely cause this error message.
- The PO Box or the address that you entered on the Magellan card is incorrect. If this is the case, then edit the insurance card and enter the correct PO Box and/or address. Enter the PO Box number that is on the physical insurance card that you received from the client where it tells you what address you would send the paper claims to Magellan. Do the same for the address. Make sure it is entered as it is on the physical insurance card you received from the patient.
- If it is a Blue Cross Blue Shield NJ patient, you should submit directly to Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (and not through Magellan).
- Maybe you shouldn't be submitting to Magellan. Sometimes, Magellan might be on the authorization and it may appear that you should be submitting to them. However, another payer may be the processor of the claims. If this is the case, edit the insurance card in Therabill to point to the other insurance company.
- It was reported by another member that the primary ID on the insurance card was not the Magellan primary ID. Magellan told him that he needed to call Magellan in order to get the primary ID for the patient when submitting to Magellan (crazy huh?).
- It was reported by a a member that the Magellan told them the claim was rejected because the client name was not entered correctly. When entering the patients name, make sure you enter the name as Magellan has it in their database. For example, if Magellan has them as 'Joseph', do not use the short name 'Joe' (this example is completely fictitious).
