The date that you received the payment. Depending on the payment entry form you are using, it can be labeled differently.

Entered Date
The date the payment was physically added to the system. If changes are made to the payment, the date itself cannot be edited.
Assigned Date
The date the payment was assigned to a session. If changes are made to the payment, the date itself cannot be edited.
For this example, you received the funds (Post Date) on 8/01/22, but did not enter the payment into the system (Entered Date) until 08/21/22. Then you assigned (Assigned Date) the payment to a session on 8/22/22.
