You can have your patient / client sign any note from the documentation system. If the client is not present, you may instead use the Send for Signature feature.
IMPORTANT: Do not request a client signature until after you have completed the note in its entirety. If you make changes to a note after it is signed by an external source, such as the client, then all external signatures will be removed from the note and you will need to get a new signature for the changed note.
How to have your client sign a note
At the top of the note template in the documentation tab of the edit session form, you will see a button labeled Client Signature (see image to the right, red arrow). This button will become visible under the following circumstances.
- The note template has been marked as needing a client signature. For information on how to mark a note template to need a client signature, please see Documentation Signature Settings.
- There has been at least one save on the note template. That is, you have entered something on the note (you cannot sign a note that hasn't been started).
If the above conditions are met and you see the client signature button, click on it to open up the Sign Now option. For the Sign Now option, your client/patient should be present to sign the note.
The Signature Box
The signature box (see image to the right) will open up when you choose the Sign Now option. Within the white area (the signature box), your patient should draw their signature. The sign option works best on touch screens using a stylus. However, a finger or a mouse can also be used to draw your signature.
In addition to drawing their signature in the signature box, the client/patient should also type their name in the text box labeled Type your name. A signature and the typed in name are required.
Once the signature is entered, click the Submit Signature button to save the signature.
Viewing the saved signature
Once the signature has been submitted, Therabill will display the saved signature as it will look on the document. If you accept the signature, click the Done button. At the top right of the signature, there will be a Remove link (see lower image to the right, blue arrow). In the future, you can view the signature or remove it by clicking the Client Signature button at the top of the note template (see image top right, red arrow).
Deleting a signature
If you need to delete (or remove) a signature on a note, at the top of the note (on the documentation tab of the edit session form), click the Client Signature button (see image top right, red arrow). This will open up the signature viewer (see image to the bottom right). Click the Remove link (see image to the bottom right, blue arrow) to permanently remove the signature. Once you remove the signature, the signature viewer will turn into the signature entry text box.
Editing a signature
There is not a way to directly edit a signature. You will need to remove the current signature (see Deleting a signature above) and then enter a new signature.
Where does the signature go?
When you print a document that has been signed by the client / patient, the client's / patient's signature will show up at the bottom of the printed document.
What if it is not the client that signs the note?
While this is meant for the client / patient to sign, if the patient is underage and needs a legal guardian to sign, you can have the guardian sign following the client / patient signature instructions above. The name that they type in the Type your name text box is what will appear as the name under the signature on the printed document.
